Romantic heroes being invented by men does not mean that every romantic hero, whether written by a man or a woman, is realistic, or even congruent to the original idea of the romantic hero. Darcy's entire character shift is nonsensical. The guy loses all trust in people after being betrayed several times, gets a humiliating verbal dressing down by a hopeless peasant-adjacent woman after he proposes to her, and this is presumably motivation for him to forgive the world all just so he can impress her? Don't patronize me.
