Hyness knew the ancients and collaborated with them in some form, since Hyness notes that they used science something we see very heavily in Forgotten Land. So likely he, or his people or whoever got into contact with them, helped them seal away whatever the "nightmare of a galactic crisis" (something we might see in the DLC actually) then the ancients being the massive dickheads they are banish Hyness to the edge of the galaxy where he goes crazy.
