Plus, we've got examples (in the companion section) of the clans using their magic to make money. Nightingale runs private clinics where the elite pay through the nose to get treated. Ford is on the cutting edge of tech, and isn't above a little arms dealing on the side. Et cetera, et cetera.

And then there's the really blatant magic schemes. Alchemists using their magic to turn things into gold (etc). Time mages playing the lottery and investing in stocks...
