Alpha came out in 1993 and Eventide came out in 2008. This means that game has gotten worse (2008) for longer than it was ever good (15 years). I draw the line around Eventide because that's when mythic rarity, planeswalkers, and gold fatigue really took off. Alara was fine lorewise but I didn't like how much it pushed 3+ color cards. 3 years later WotC released its first Commander set and that was the last nail in the coffin. We went from 30 new legendary creatures a year to over 300 new releases.
