portraying newtypes without being weighed down by the baggage of the old and being able to do more than just cause misery for others around them when following their impulsive emotions. I think it's a bit capeshit-y but acceptable when keeping in mind that the work was always intended as a celebration of the roots of the franchise for a big anniversary milestone and not as a long new running series. it's also fae more interesting than the single idea of 'more gundam' that is carried by everything released from wing to SEAd freedom that has no tomino involvement. gaijin are too cynical and were too quick to dismiss the honest love and reverence that the gainax old guard holds for gundam.
