Picture of the MG Hyaku Shiki Kai next to the Golden Warrior I found on AliExpress. The base form really does look like one of those Chinky flavored Metal Build redesigns of the Kai. Not bad.

assuming an enamel panel liner it has some petroleum-based thinner, probably akin to if not mineral spirits. plastics, being petroleum-based themselves, are damaged by it

It's the thinner. Tamiya accent is just an enamel based paint that's extremely thinned down with enamel thinner. You're safe to use it on bare plastic ONLY if it's still in the sprue. Whenever you cut a part of the sprue, no matter how careful you are, you're going to develop micro-fractures in the plastic. As a liquid, the thinner in the Tamiya will penetrate into those micro-fractures and weaken the structure, leading to cracking.
But if it's fresh out of the box from injection molding, you're fine.
Also, avoid letting it pool. Pools of it sitting on plastic can eat away at the surface and create divots it can penetrate into.

They do. You know those glass display counters where the cashiers are? I saw nippers and shit in there too. I was going to buy some stuff but my backlog is already huge. They are selling kits that are at least $5-10 cheaper than Argama/Panda Hobby.

Aside from shit that people REALLY do not care about, I don't necessarily see a Gundam (especially) being made in modern times and doing badly. As long as it isn't a Zeta Ver Ka situation - I think that didn't do too great because the 2.0 already exists. The G Saviors could in theory do great along the lines of the F90.

A different new SD kit idea I had in mind is SDCS Superior Kaiser Z, which can be converted back to Superior Kaiser and Super Superior Dragon. Chrome plated parts from stock because that's the major renown for Superior Dragon, with an entirely chromed Kaiser Wyvern. Of course, P-Bandai can release a Dark Superior Kaiser because we have a Dark Kaiser Wyvern now in SD Gaiden NEO, all in a cool ashen silver.

I'm a fan of some of the less popular main suits like Double X and Turn A, but there's also something timeless about a regular old grunt green Zaku II. I've also heard the Freedom 2.0 is a pretty good intro, but like most people I have a soft spot for the Wing Zero EW, and I heard the ver ka is good.

Very good kit. It has some really interesting articulation in the legs. Very good kit. 9/10. Needs light color correction in the head.

The bead looking parts on the heat pipes are miserable to clean up and the green one is actually pretty hard to find. It's a very good build though. It's easy to lose the heat pipe parts since they're put onto a spring before being put onto the model. 8/10 kit. Pretty good. The gouf 2.0 is a better executed version of what is largely the same kit.

The midsection is a bit fragile before the model is fully assembled. It's good though. The wings can be a bit boring to assemble. Lots of big parts and it feels pretty repetitive to build them. 8/10 kit. Pretty good.
I will tell you some sage wisdom from when I started, unsolicited. The main series of wing EW kits all have identical frames so if you try to get all of them to build a collection it'll get really boring really fast if you do them back to back like I did.
Everything you're interested in are solid choices.

Looks great but mine gave me a ton of issues fitting together around the legs. I was very frustrated with it. it also has some large and ugly stickers on the wings so paint is almost mandatory.
Oddly enough, the shining gundam and god gundam have next to no issues aside from needing some ugly mold lines fixed. I might have just gotten a bad master gundam.

Everything about this kit is bad compared to later kits. It is the first master grade though so it is to be expected. It really only has value if you appreciate gunpla history.

C clip nightmare. It loves to drop parts when you articulate it and the transformation gimmick feels horrible. It also needs a good amount of color correction.

Generally, just avoid anything from before 2001 and the 1.0 version of anything with a 2.0. The kits are often fine, they just need a bit more love to really look good.

Looks great but the articulation in the arms, legs and body are ass. I'm not sure there's a way to make a qubeley articulate well without compromising the design. It does have very good head and neck articulation. The hands are also very nice.
It needs a separate effects part to display it with the funnels out. There is a bootleg of that parts kit though.
Make sure you apply the eye sticker or paint them on while you're building the head. You will have a very hard time getting it apart if to do that if you don't.

The sinanju has the same type of bead assembly as the zaku heat pipes but it both includes spares and has an assembly which is a lot less fiddly to put together. It also needs a bit of paint to truly look great but the stickers it comes with are serviceable for a snap built model. You lose some of the depth from the sculpt using them but they're fine.
Every one of those models will look good snapbuilt or if you paint them. None of them need any color correction beyond using waterslide decals that they come with in the case of the F90 line or the red sinanjus stickers.

I finally finished my first koto kit
I was procrastinating on it for like a month and I'll be honest, I love the design, but it's the worst model kit I've ever built, including several chinkpla bootlegs
The plastic is so thin that even after primer + paint I could see straight through the parts when I brought them up to the lamp, and so brittle I broke half the pegs and several joints while working
The elbow joint is straight DOGSHIT, it can't even hold up its own weapons and I have no idea how you would even fix it without just gluing it the fuck up (which is what I did)
Many seamlines that were very annoying to fix (and I ended up not bothering with some of them)
The weathering was an attempt to bring out detail because it still looked soft and see-through, I felt like I massively overdid it while painting, but after assembly it looks ok I think
