No, they don't. I was always in some sort of romantic relationship from early adolescence until a few years ago, whether FWB, something really serious, or somewhere in-between, and I decided to go it alone because it always seemed to be more stress than reward.

The first two years were actually really nice, catching up on reading and film and so on, but I am fucking lonely and sexless and getting back into the dating pool fucking sucks. I broke up with every chick I was ever with looking for something better*, and broke up with the last one because I was sick of the burdens of it all.

I'm sure I'll land on my feet, but once you get a girl, try to meet her halfway on most things and take care of her well and keep her, and save yourself the torment of learning the hard way like I have.
