Sometimes I have them already saved, sometimes I recognize the artist or notice the quality is kind of shit so I go save it myself if I didn't already. All in all it's just pattern recognition of knowing artists usually posting a certain resolution or simply a hunch that it's not in full res, in that case it's because I know those official anime visuals have usually been posted in way higher res.
