Sega was fucking retarded. They burned all good will with major retailers with the 32X and the Sega CD. Then they made the retarded decision to release the Saturn 4 MONTHS EARLIER and only at select stores. The early release pissed off the stores who got it (Sega still failed to meet preorder demands) and the stores who didn't get in on the exclusivity deal. EA also explicitly said they wouldn't make games for the Dreamcast.

It got so bad for the Dreamcast that they started including a free year of internet with each system and Sega's chairman paid for it.
