Moot went on record and claimed one of the biggest reasons for the site's success is that anonymity masks the true number of people talking about a subject, This lead to a double edged sword of people thinking their specific interests were supported by the site, but also thinking that those interests were representative of the site; not realising how big 4chan actually was.

Trannies and those who like them are a very small niche portion of society. To think it's somehow different here is absurdity.

And just a final point to hammer it home; 4chan has literally been considered the "arsehole of the internet" since at least early 2004. Willing to mock anything and everything. To claim that such a maligned group had safe harbour here is again pure absurdity.

It was actually originally college/university website filled with the average white male where'd many would larp as fat neets to get a rise out of people.

Actual fat neets were subject to intense scorn and mockery. But as with everything, the real deal then comes flooding in and slowly corrupts the site.
