Okay well assuming good faith, the Metroid series rips off Alien in contrasting a female lead with a malevolent female alien intelligence, and the ongoing theme of motherhood and reproductive horror is important; Samus's feminine nature prevents her from exterminating the final Metroid.

Also a man couldn't pull this look off.
