It's a good point. I've asked it a few times in these threads and elsewhere and the response other people say is that it's all about 'saving face' and appearing to look strong which is very very very important in Ruskiy Mir which foreigner anglos just don't understand.
But yeah I agree, I think if they do want to continue fighting the war then general mobilisation is unavoidable. And Chinese economic vassalisation is unavoidable even if Zelensky unilaterally surrenders by sunset tonight because of the state of the Russian economy. Russia's only liberty here is to choose the speed at which they get annexed really.

Not true because not having obligations doesn't imply one doesn't have rights. I'd reword it and say that if a person is then it also has obligations. So for one to not have obligations implies that one is not aka one is dead.

I dunno I don't think that's right. The northern front is basically dead and attempts to capture Kyiv and force regime change is out of scope even if they continue to bark about the evil jewnazi junta yadda yadda. To put it crudely, they aren't veh deh veh spamming Kyiv until they finally succeed at taking an airport which is completely unlike their operations in the Donbas where they do spam infantry zerg rushes into villages populated by a two potato farming babushkas.
So the Ru government might demand a lot and say that they want to do X, Y, Z but their military commanders know that they can't afford to and only do what they think has a reasonable short-term cost. Picrel is a cost they think is fine to pay. Imagine if it were this many professionally trained dvd soldiers + burnt out plane wreckages instead of smouldering retrofitted $5k ladas.
