That's how Romans fought. For example, in Hispania/Spain against Quintus Sertorius (by the way a Roman renegade as khokhols are Russian renegades), Romans spent years to exhaust Sertorious' army (they might do it quickier, but Roman politics had some impact). Eventually Roman henchmen of Sertorious, his Roman officers were mostly killed in action. He had to attract more Hispanics and that became his ending. He was murdered during the coup soon, and a few years later the movement was totally defeated.

For some people the war against Sertorious might seem long, dull, boring, eventless, expensive. But at the end of the day Rome always wins, because it's a socio-political and cultural machine, a fucking asphalt roller.
