It's more akin to Dark Souls in its themes and atmosphere. It's a 2D platformer. Yes it has backtracking akin to Metroid / Castlevania, thus it being classified as a "metroidvania" type game.

It's just a great game. The art is cool, it's fun to play, great music, developed by a tiny independent team. Look up the reviews if you don't trust me. You will enjoy the game. Again, it only costs 15 quid. You won't regret buying it.
