>The Two Qahtans – A Common Historical Confusion
There were two different Qahtans in Arab history:
* Qahtan I (Joktan – العرب البائدة) – Ancestor of Jurhum and other ancient tribes that disappeared.
* Qahtan II (العرب القحطانية) – A descendant of Ishmael, forefather of Sabaeans, Himyarites, and Azd.
Qahtan II’s descendants formed the Southern Arabs (Qahtanis), while Adnan’s descendants became the Northern Arabs (Adnanis).

>The Quraysh – Tribe of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ
* Descended from Adnan via Fihr ibn Malik (Quraysh).
* Key Figures from Quraysh:
* * Abd al-Muttalib – Grandfather of the Prophet ﷺ.
* * Abu Talib – His uncle and protector.
* * Abu Sufyan – Initially opposed Islam but later converted.
The Quraysh tribe held custodianship of the Kaaba, making them highly influential.
