Trinity / Triad
How come the Trinity or Triad was so common among ancient peoples?

In ancient pre-Islamic, pre-Abrahamic Arabia, there were several sets of trinities:
> The most common and oldest was from Upper (South) Arabia: Shams (Sun), Wadd (Moon), and Astarte (Venus).
> In the ancient kingdoms of Old Saba and Hadramawt: Shams (Sun), Almaqah/Syn (Moon), and Attar (Venus).
> In Lower Arabia and especially in Canaan: Shapshu/Shamshu (Sun), Saggar (Moon), and Attar (Venus).
> In Lower Arabia, among the Ishmaelite (Qedarite) federation: Nuha (Sun), Ruda (Moon), and Atarsamain (Venus).
> A sub-branch of the Qedarites, specifically the Quraysh, had the trinity of Al-Uzza (Venus), Al-Lat (Earth), and Al-Manat.

In Mesopotamia, there were two early triads (An and Inanna appeared almost at the same time, so both existed early):
> First triad: An (Uranus), Enlil/Ashur, and Enki (Neptune).
> Second triad: Nanna (Moon), Utu (Sun), and Inanna (Venus).

In Egypt, there were four main triads:
> Sun triad: Khepri, Ra, and Atum.
> Elephantine triad: Khnum (Neptune), Satis, and Anuket.
>Theban triad: Amun (Jupiter), Mut, and Khonsu (Moon).
>Memphite triad: Ptah, Sekhmet, and Nefertem.

Even Hinduism has the Trimurti: Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva.

The Norse also had a common triad: Odin (Mercury), Thor (Jupiter), and Freyr (Venus).

The Qur'an supports the trinity because it says Allah sent messengers to every nation. So if all nations are polytheistic with triads, it means this is the correct theology for islam.

Because it makes sense from a metaphysical framework, even in cultures where classic metaphysical philosophy is absent. A creator, his presence in the material and a speaker, unified under one higher power while also having a degree of differing agency. Their mere conception of their linked relation forms the Godhead. Pagans have always known that divine power cannot just rest at the feet of a singular entity but many, with a triad structure often becoming the most efficent or understandable conceptually. That is why you see a shrinking of pantheon with some pagan faiths while other faiths which are monotheistic expand from one to three or four.

There was an old world understanding of the nature of God. This understanding became distorted over time but it was eventually fully restored in the bible, particularly the NT where the Father, Son and Holy Spirit are presented more clearly.

How you have fallen from heaven,
morning star, son of the dawn!
You have been cast down to the earth,
you who once laid low the nations! - Isaiah 14:12

In Isaiah 14:12-15, the phrase "Helel ben Shahar" (הֵילֵל בֶּן־שָׁחַר) is used, which is translated as "morning star, son of the dawn!" in the King James Version.

“I, Jesus, have sent my angel to give you[a] this testimony for the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, and the bright Morning Star.” - Revelation 22:16

Jesus is referred to as the "bright and morning star" in the Bible, specifically in Revelation 22:16.

Judeo-Christian BTFO, no wonder all these trinities in the Middle East had a deity representing Venus.

You can take your bs translations and shove them up your ass. I'll stick with the clear distinction that the kjv provides:

“How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!” (Isaiah 14:12)

“I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star.” (Revelation of John 22:16)

Neal Robinson, interpreting certain Quranic verses, suggests that some Arab Christians may have followed unorthodox beliefs, including the worship of a divine triad composed of God the Father, Jesus the Son, and Mary the Mother. Evidence also points to the existence of heterodox groups like the Collyridians, whose followers venerated Mary. These groups were reportedly present in Arabia, and some scholars believe the Quran refers to their practices.

However, other scholars — notably Mircea Eliade, William Montgomery Watt, G. R. Hawting, and Sidney H. Griffith — question the historical accuracy or reliability of such references in the Quran. Their perspectives include:

> Mircea Eliade contends that Muhammad’s understanding of Christianity was “rather approximative.” The Quran’s mention of a triad of God, Jesus, and Mary likely reflects information obtained from people familiar with the Monophysite Church of Abyssinia, known for its strong veneration of Mary.

> William Montgomery Watt observes that it is unclear how well Muhammad understood Christian beliefs before the conquest of Mecca, and dating certain Quranic critiques of Christianity remains uncertain. He suggests Muhammad and early Muslims might have been unaware of some orthodox Christian doctrines, including the Trinity, because his Christian sources had only a limited grasp of doctrinal teachings.

> Watt also argues that the Quranic criticisms may be directed not at orthodox Christianity but at heretical beliefs such as tritheism and the idea of a “physical sonship” of God.

> G. R. Hawting, Sidney H. Griffith, and Gabriel Reynolds propose that the Quranic depictions of seemingly unorthodox Christian beliefs should be understood as intentional, polemical caricatures of mainstream Christian doctrine, meant to underscore how, from an Islamic standpoint, many of its principles appear flawed.

>Introduction:
This chart traces the genealogy of Ishmael (Isma'il) ﷺ, the forefather of the Arab tribes, and clarifies the distinction between the two Qahtans. It also highlights key figures, including the Quraysh tribe of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. Let’s explore their history!

>Ishmael (Isma'il) – The Father of the Arabs
* Son of Prophet Abraham (Ibrahim) ﷺ and Hagar (Hājar).
* Settled in Mecca, where he and Abraham rebuilt the Kaaba.
* Had 12 sons, who became the leaders of various Arab tribes.
His descendants are divided into two major lineages:
* Adnanites (العرب المستعربة – Arabized Arabs) – Descendants of Adnan, including Quraysh.
* Qahtanites (العرب العاربة – Pure Arabs) – Descendants of Qahtan II, including Sabaeans and Himyarites.

>The 12 Sons of Ishmael – Founders of Arab Tribes
Each son became the patriarch of an Arab tribe, spreading across Arabia, Mesopotamia, and the Levant. Some key tribes:
* Qedar (قيدار) – Ancestor of the Adnanites (Northern Arabs).
* Nebaioth (نبايوت) – Connected to the Nabataeans (Petra civilization).
* Dumah (دومة) – Linked to Dumah al-Jandal, an important trade center in northern Arabia.
* Tayma (تيما) – Associated with the historic city of Tayma (تيماء) in present-day Saudi Arabia.
These tribes laid the foundation of later Arab civilizations.

>The Two Qahtans – A Common Historical Confusion
There were two different Qahtans in Arab history:
* Qahtan I (Joktan – العرب البائدة) – Ancestor of Jurhum and other ancient tribes that disappeared.
* Qahtan II (العرب القحطانية) – A descendant of Ishmael, forefather of Sabaeans, Himyarites, and Azd.
Qahtan II’s descendants formed the Southern Arabs (Qahtanis), while Adnan’s descendants became the Northern Arabs (Adnanis).

>The Quraysh – Tribe of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ
* Descended from Adnan via Fihr ibn Malik (Quraysh).
* Key Figures from Quraysh:
* * Abd al-Muttalib – Grandfather of the Prophet ﷺ.
* * Abu Talib – His uncle and protector.
* * Abu Sufyan – Initially opposed Islam but later converted.
The Quraysh tribe held custodianship of the Kaaba, making them highly influential.

>The Lineage of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ
The Prophet's direct ancestors:
* Muhammad ibn Abdullah ibn Abd al-Muttalib ibn Hashim ibn Abd Manaf ibn Qusai ibn Kilab (Adnanite descent).
* His Hashemite lineage remains significant, with Jordan’s ruling family claiming descent from him.
His lineage connects the spiritual and political history of Arabia.

>The Impact of These Lineages
* Islamic Leadership: Quraysh ruled Mecca and led the early Muslim state.
* Arab Kingdoms: Lakhmids (Qahtani) controlled Iraq, Quraysh (Adnani) ruled Mecca.
* Modern Influence: Many ruling families, like the Hashemites of Jordan, claim Adnanite descent.
Arab history blends these lineages into a unified identity, despite early rivalries.

>Conclusion:
The genealogy of Ishmael ﷺ is key to understanding Arab identity, tribal culture, and the rise of Islam. The Adnanite and Qahtanite lineages shaped the politics, religion, and civilization of the Arab world.

What are your thoughts on this history? Let’s discuss!
