I think you can do a story where she falls for the syndrome and it still feels in character, like her frustrations with Oishi and Takano spreading the rumors. She knows the Sonozaki aren't behind the "curse", but what if the people spreading these rumors are the ones creating the incidents in the first place? It seems like a very easy train of thought that the series never follows due to Shion being created after Onikakushi to take the role of criminal from Mion.
