Kind of have a point there. A lot of modern writers seem to have grown up and been influenced by iconic and beloved characters, but never thought WHY said characters were liked.
They think you'll like the main character just because it's the main character.
They think you'll hate the bad guys because they label them as bad.
They think you'll love gay LBGTQ characters because they threaten to cancel you if you don't.
