The story of wilds was truly lame. I have to have a reason to care about some random kid. This is why I don't watch TV or movies any more. Way too many writers lean on "people will care about this character!" without actually giving a reason to care.

The new Star Wars movie truly sucked because they DID set up Rey and Ben to be truly interesting characters IF they flipped sides in the second movie. They had good set up. Then they completely fucked it all up in the 2nd movie by doing the vanilla boring timeline of them just staying the way they are and doing nothing interesting for the 2nd and 3rd movies. The trilogy would have been saved if Rey went dark and Ben went light. A massive fuck up. It's called a 'character arc'. Characters need to evolve in more than 1 direction.
Wilds is just 'kid lost his family and toughens up over time'. WOOOOOW what garbage story. I was skipping cutscenes after the first couple hours.
World didn't even have a good story, but it's way more watchable than Wilds.

When you're in your 30's you've pretty much seen all the basic storylines. I have higher standards than most people. Yes, the writers have to give me a reason to sit through your 10-20 hour TV show.

I have no problem turning off a show and not finishing it. I don't waste my time watching garbage. I'd rather watch an educational youtube video than some fantasy show that is trash.

There is a reason some filmmakers are revered. They do a good job of setting things up and tell a story way better than average joe director. It actually DOES take skill to tell a story in an engaging way. However, a huge portion of the population is like you, and will eat up slop, because your standards are very low.

Watch Rush Hour. The first movie is so basic, but it does a great job setting everything up. The character motivations are all solid. Everything makes sense. It's a great example of a fun movie that is made well. It takes maybe 5 minutes to set up the entire story.
You know how they make the Dad and daughter pinky promise that he's picking her up from school? THEN she gets kidnapped? That 'laggo' pinky promise is sacred. Just one touch like that ads so much weight to the story. You actually care about the kid in that movie. Also, Jackie Chan is established as her friend, so he cares. Then Chris Tucker's character evolves through the movie, but he doesn't COMPLETELY change, so he's still believable. Great film. Watch Rush Hour with a filmmaker lens. Rush Hour is a genuinely good movie, which is why it spawned a franchise.

There is absolutely none of that in Wilds.

The one thing that REALLY bothered me was how fucked up the death of the innocent assistant/babysitter was in World (2015). She did nothing wrong and was just being f'd over by the stupid kids, and she gets eaten alive, whole, by the giant sea monster.
Apparently the actress asked to have a f'd up death, but that part of the movie really fucked with me. Her character was simply trashed. So off-putting and kind of ruined the movie. I can laugh at the girl running around in heels, but that assistant girl's death was beyond f'd up.

No, you generally don't have to wirebug unless they're specific two-hit combos. Like how World/Wilds have those grabs where you're able to use your slinger but you're too retarded to just get up and walk, there are some hits that down your hunter and the monster does a quick follow up. Or, more obviously, you're thrown into the air and monsters sits below ready to spike you. Spamming wirebug every time you get hit is the same as spamming bird every time you get hit. It's unnecessary and sometimes can get you killed.
