Because HK was a very lenient game outside the DLC. Two things contribute to the difficulty of Silksong. First, the tankiness of the enemies. They don't actually take that many hits, but for as much as they dodge around or block, it feels like a lot. I think it's to encourage tool and silk use, because they go down pretty quick if you aren't being stingy with resources. Second, it's the damage. There are tons of enemies who do 2 masks from the get-go, and enemies who do 3 masks become common later on.
