Because HK was a very lenient game outside the DLC. Two things contribute to the difficulty of Silksong. First, the tankiness of the enemies. They don't actually take that many hits, but for as much as they dodge around or block, it feels like a lot. I think it's to encourage tool and silk use, because they go down pretty quick if you aren't being stingy with resources. Second, it's the damage. There are tons of enemies who do 2 masks from the get-go, and enemies who do 3 masks become common later on.

Main bosses are where the game shines. It's obviously where they spent the most time. Minibosses were clearly just slapped together and given a bunch of annoying bullshit to raise the difficulty. And common enemies take too many hits to kill so retreading anywhere feels like a chore. The sprint was seemingly a huge improvement over backtracking from the first game, but it just got countered by damage sponge enemies.

I used Hunter for most of the game but after getting two attack upgrades I feel like Wanderer is better as long as the boss lets you get an extra attack in.
The flintslate also makes it feel super fucking strong if you can keep hitting bosses.

Plus it also lets you use pogos way more offensively and after getting the range up charm it has no downside anymore.

The Knight was a child of Two Hale Beings + a vessel of the Abyss. He was resilient as fuck due to genetics, hence why he only took one mask damage from most enemies and could tank for ages. Hornet is a mutt between Higher Being and common beast, hence why everything does 2x mask damage and her grace period after taking damage is extremely brief. Genetics are a bitch.

I went back to Hollow Knight and just for the sake of comparison fought some early game enemies while pretending to be a total beginner - Silksong is WAY harder. It's pretty obvious this was designed to be a harder DLC for Hollow Knight and for players who had already beaten the game, not a whole separate game marketed as beginner-friendly. Just Bell Beast on its own is harder than Brooding Mawlek, which is a completely optional boss you can't even access before getting 2 movement upgrades.

The "gather silver bells" wish from the Bellheart bulletin board is such a retarded quest. At first I thought I was missing some secret passageways, especially since it says bells can also be found "below Bellheart" (which I still don't get but what the fuck ever).

No. Turns out they just...randomly spawn in the fucking 1 narrow network of tunnels above where you fight Widow. Like that's it. They want you to just fucking traverse the tunnels, save at a bench, and then go through them again checking the random spawn locations until you find 8 of them. Sometimes only 1 would spawn for me (the first time I checked). Is there any point in putting such a boring fucking mission in? At least make it a fucking loot gathering quest where I have to kill the mobs in there to get bell drops. This was such a phoned in lazy half ass mission that does nothing but waste your time because this section of the game is so small that they have to artificially force you to traverse it multiple times since there's 0 reason to ever enter it after beating the boss...

Zote absolutely established the fear of two-mask contact damage coming from enemies that would not only fall out of the sky when stunned, but would also pop up a little in case you were attacking them from above. Radiant Zote was probably most complained about aside from Markoth and The Radiance for this very reason, but people who wanted to complete the quest for beating him 10 times or beat him on Radiant adapted to this and made sure to pogo from the diagonals or strike from the tip of their range.

Silksong was originally DLC, so it was clearly built assuming you learned from Zote and TC didn't correct for their delays. I'm sure the design was intentional. They just failed to redevelop after the fact that their game was fucking vaporware for a while.

This game is way more exhausting and irritating to play than it is fun. Silksong is the epitome of what happens when indie devs get too cocky and autistic, and think they're too good for feedback from outside their discord cult. Lotta garbage in this game would have been caught very early in development even with a Twitter poll

I think if they wanted to do this, the proper way would be to not have it be RNG spawn, but instead have like 2 of them spawn in the above tunnels as fixed setpieces akin to the purple plants in Shellwoodl, and the rest of them below. I looked around for a "below" passage and never found one so I just assumed it was a later unlock, and since you can complete the quest without discovering it I figured they accounted for you not having access to it yet. I did consider that I was missing a passageway somewhere, but it's not like I didn't look. I'd probably have kept looking if they didn't give me an out desu.

The damage rampup on the Evolved Hunter's Crest is a trap. Don't worry about it. Don't try to trigger it. There's practically no boss in the game that gives you enough space to whack on them. Hollow Knight was way easier. I'm a zoomer and it was my first metroidvania, and the only regular bosses who were initially a big filter for me were Soul Master and Traitor Lord. It's only the endgame bosses that filtered me again such as NKG or PV, ar AbsRad. The regular enemies and the platforming were also MUCH easier.
Just some of Silksong's basic enemies are harder than Hollow Knight's bosses, and the platforming is noticeably more complex. Also why do spikes deal 2x damage now everywhere except the starting areA?

I died to this boss like 40 times.
The trick for me was instantly and always going for the adds.
The adds can be repelled if you attack while they spin towards you.
When the boss is down and you don't need to heel, use an ability on it as it does more damage.

I actually malded so much over this boss that I got here, deleted my save, then redid everything and then got stuck again.

Bros I literally have nothing left to do except Broodfeast quest, and the soul grub thing and things I need a vertical dash for but Act 3 isn't anywhere in sight
