The only jail bait characters in the whole franchise is Cream and Marine, maybe Tails but 99.9% of the the Tails enjoyers are women so literally no one but weird control-freaks like you care about that.

If you're counting non vidya media, I'd say half of Archie beats the shit out of the plots given by the typical sonic games. Game only, SA 1, 2, heroes, and the rivals fall under the ST USA branch. If your base floor is "coherent sentences", then I can see why you'd enjoy Sonic X and 06 for riveting tales.
In terms of appeal, the west is how sonic got as far as it did. Japan relied heavily on their western branches for insight, can't sell the IP to their home jap audience, and got so pissed at 90s Sega success they sabotaged it at every corner.
