one more thing:
p5 is also about being able to take off your "mask" and casting off the superficial labels that people only see on the surface.
the phantom thieves all take off their "masks" because they no longer need to wear them to fit in and this is even seen in their persona awakening scenes where they literally take off their masks, which contrasts with goro's transformation scene in the engine room where he puts his mask on.
goro couldn't bring himself to take off his "masks" because he so desperately wanted the approval they brought him. he doesn't act as his true self like the phantom thieves were able to. he acts how others want him to act. he's a prisoner in that way.
but his mask does eventually come off literally when the phantom thieves beat it off of him in the engine room. it literally breaks.
and i think how he acted afterwards with helping the pt represents him acting as his true self.
