They're called tenets. An oath is not a contract. A Paladin is not a Warlock. As for your question, it's a matter of practical (and therefore imperfect) code. It's easier to implement a baseline of oathbreaking when attacking neutral entities - even if it leads to apparent contradictions like these. It's not specific to Oath of the Crown.
