I want to get a PCIe to NVMe adapter for my x16 lane. It's PCIE 3, I have a Z490 with a 10th gen Intel chip. Would it be better to get a 4TB SSD with or without DRAM/cache, if it's a newer SSD?
There's some PCIe 5.0/gen whatever drives like the Evo 990 Plus. It's up to 7000MB/s read, 6000MB/s write. With the adapter I'd be limited to a max speed of about 3000MB/s anyway. Would it still be better to maybe opt for an older, not as readily available anymore SSD that's 3.0 or 4.0, but has DRAM? Or still get a newer model that supports up to 5.0 and also has DRAM.
I mainly want a very fast (for my standards) drive to put all my games on. I currently have 5 SATA SSDs varying in performance and one older Samsung NVMe which I got with the mobo. I'd like to migrate the OS to the NVMe and then have another, bigger NVMe for my games.
