It's very clearly pointed out that there is indeed a golden ending possible but the two characters are so bogged down with their own baggage they refuse to cede any ground so it's all destroyed in the end.
The only hope we have is that Alicia can maybe one day recreate them, but it will never be them resurrected properly. Just a copy because the chroma they were made with are forever lost.
