This is how literally every social phenomenon is. Some innovator draws something out from the realm of ideas, some small group of followers iterate upon it and make it more accessible, it grows but gets systematized and formalized and bureaucratized and commodified and watered down, in that process the original meaning is forgotten and only the outward facing shell of it remains for an increasingly degenerate and uncreative people to reuse over and over again until it has lost all meaning and value and everything attached to it disintegrates as there is no longer any understanding structure to hold them up.
