Deltarune is full of Christian symbolism and in some Christian folklore it's said to be possible to sell one's soul to the devil. With Kris summoning a "demon" being an open secret it's clear he sold his soul for some purpose (we can rule out fabulous riches, fame, or power). The SOUL he has now, and which we have control over, is what he got in exchange and is demonic possession. This story will end like Faust.
