The Soul is just the avatar the players experience the game through and is ultimately its own character. Think Link in pretty much all the Zelda games. Yes, he's sort of a player-insert, but he clearly has his own agenda in going on his adventures. Or maybe a better comparison would be someone like Geralt who is a pretty defined character but there's enough leeway in the games that while you can make choices for him, he still has his own agenda that pushes him through the games. So, the Soul ultimately isn't the player, but is someone in-universe acting in a role similar to what the player would be, if that makes sense. Which might be a distinction without a difference to some of you, but I think it's a difference Toby wants to have to sort of distance himself from, frankly, the hurt feelings some people got over the metaness of Chara/The Genocide route in Undertale. And I don't blame him with how obnoxious some of you guys are about Deltarune's metaness. At this point, I'd say he's done a poor job of distancing himself if that's what he even is going for, but the game isn't complete yet, so there's still a chance that the Soul's existence will be flatout confirmed to just be its own entity separate from the player somewhere down the line.

It doesn't mater to me, honestly. As long as it's not another Spec Ops situation where you're forced to make an obviously a bad decision and the game blames you for playing it.

The true pacifist ending doesn't add that much. The biggest loss is the true lab and not having to sit through the dykeslop makes up for it. Asriel is the worst final boss fight despite its presentation because it is a glorified cutscene. You can't lose.

I find it amusing how some games attract som much crazy retards. I follow a YouTuber who reviews DOS games, and he revealed in a video that he became so obsessed with one of the characters from Deltarune (or Undertale, one of the two games) that he recreated her as a giant, frightening doll that sits on his bed.
