Do you think Kris is making a concerted effort to keep Noelle out of the story because her presence makes everything way more fucked up, or because he just likes Susie and thinks she's cool? The fact that Noelle is apparently always supposed to be there but isn't (based on all the dialogue for her in the code that has no right to exist) makes me wonder if we'll get the Noelle cut once everything is over and done with.

Putting aside the plot which I'm sure is the only reason Toby made the gameplay decisions that he made, Ralsei in my opinion should've fucked off after Chapter 1.
It should've been a case of every Chapter having a custom companion, for example Chapter 2 could've had you get Lancer instead of Ralsei until Lancer turns to stone, then you could have Berdly join us to fight off the Queen.
The only reason Berdly doesn't join you is specifically because Ralsei exist and takes the third spot.
Chapter 3 could've had Roulx join you, until he eventually betrays you to get with his Thropple (or however he calls it), at which point Lancer (or even The Original Starwalker) could've been part of your team until you defeated Roulx and got him back.
Chapter 4 could've had Gerson or could've pulled the rug under your feet and make you actually use one of the Darkners there, like he paper cups.

Granted this absolutely does not consider weird routes and plotpoints relevant to the game, however I do feel Ralsei really could've been pushed aside and the gave would've improved because of it.
