We had so many cool characters in undertale already we could have used, we had so many new characters added in deltarune from the get go.

Noelle was a pretty good addition for all of 1/5th of a chapter she's available in but she's basically just a ralsei replacement because she has the exact same 2 fucking skills as him aka HEAL and SLEEP with her only unique feature which is the ice magic being NOT EVEN USEABLE UNLESS YOU WANT TO DO SNOWGRAVE.

We didn't even fucking Berdly on our team.
We could've had Berdly instead of Susie and Noelle instead of Ralsei for chapter 3 to have 2 whole new party memebers that are clearly meant to mimic the other two with the exact same axe weapon and heal and sleep magic.

And we could've had FUCKING TORIEL for chapter 4.

Susie is more entertaining when she has actual things she wants and isn't just there to ruin someone else's fun. Ralsei realizing the others aren't afraid of the "hard parts" and will stick with him anyway is incredibly enjoyable development on his part. Knew the prophecy before he knew himself, this caused horrible damage to his self-worth. He spends every chapter trying to sideline himself not because he """wants to die smoothly""" but because he considers other people's enjoyment to be important, and his own to be unimportant. His growth so far has mostly been getting over that and doing things that he considers "selfish", by actually enjoying himself.

Still struggling because her default assumption for most interactions is one where someone is the victim and someone is the aggressor. She's learned enough tact that she'll generally at least ask for clarification when she's confused, but it took awhile. She's sensitive about a lot of the typical "kid stuff" like feeling dumb and having no friends, because the period when she should've gotten over those insecurities was a hard time for her. She at least doesn't try to make up for it by lashing out anymore, which is huge growth.

The Chapter 1 text has her saying "Where am I? Is anyone there?" as if she had just found herself in this situation, and by Chapter 4 her narration describes feeling like it's been years, noticing that she doesn't need to eat or drink, reminiscing about seeing the Sun. It hasn't just been a few days, and she certainly didn't just get into the situation a few days ago.
It's likely that we're just seeing excerpts of her thoughts and memories from a long time ago, similarly to how we saw Chara's memories in Undertale.

Spamton is a paralel to the player in the weird route. You both want freedom and choices in a world that doesn't provide them (Deltarune is a preety linear game) and are willing to fuck over anyone to get even a taste of that [Freedom sauce]. In (you)r case, you mindbreak Noelle probably just because it seems like something the game doesn't want you to do.
Much like how in the end nothing Spamton does matters (even on the weird route, where he seems to get everything he wanted, he still ends up getting his ass beat just like in the normal route), going out of your way to force the weird route to happen changes very little when you actually think about it. Chapter 3 goes exactly the same way it normally would and Noelle scene aside, so does Chapter 4.
Taking that into consideration, I believe in the end both routes are probably going to have the same final boss, and possibly the same ending. The only difference is going to be that in the weird route you also made everyone miserable along the way.
You broke Noelle just because you wanted to go off script and in the end you don't even get to do that.

If we assume that moving up or moving forwards means moving forwards in time, as shown in the post-chapter 3 route, then the only way to access the "real" Sword Route is to go through Chapter 2 Weird and then do "something" in Chapter 3 involving the Sword Route that results in an alternate ending to the chapter. You can't go back to fight the alternate final boss of Chapter 2 (Spamton NEO) after going to Chapter 3, after all. You can go up or to the left/right, but never down or the way you came.

I'll also note that Chapter 3 is the place where Ralsei seems exceptionally nervous about the prospect of you taking control of Susie - he looks back at the camera when you put the bow on her - so my best guess is that the something is swapping from Kris to Susie somehow, with chapter 7 being accessible by doing something, but the True Lab equivalent is reached by using the "key" (the shelter codes) and entering the shelter instead while Kris can't stop you.

did you forget about the whole section in the light world? It's a lot, and gives us a ton of information about Kris, the soul, the Knight, Dess, and even Noelle and Susie.
There's the church scene that somehow feels like a somber contemplative scene, and a light hearted comedic scene.
Oddly, I thought the main dark world was oddly a bit weak, but we go through three dark worlds in one chapter. Try not to get distracted, all of this is just chapter 4.

If anything on my repeat playthrough I found Chapter 2 to be the most annoying. You have those two mouse puzzles, The light puzzles in Queen's mansion before berdly talks about how Noelle is smarter, That one bit where Noelle talks about back in the day after Queen's car blows up, the Acid Tunnel segments where you literally do nothing but wait with Ralsei, stuff like that is fine by itself but unlike climbing up the Titan it doesn't really require much input but you can't just mash through them like regular cutscenes. So I find them kind of annoying

We can't complete chapter 3's alternate route because we do not have the key yet. You'll get some ability or knowledge later in the game that will make it possible. Speaking of which...

You literally cannot do MANTLE's second board - which gives you the instructions for the "Forbidden Path" - without first having obtained a key from playing MANTLE once before and bringing it with you into your second play session. The Forbidden Path starts with ice, but once you've reached the door you need the key to unlock Noelle is "used up" - now that you're at the door (located in chapter 3) you don't need her anymore. The Noelle-centric Weird Route can be abandoned here, in other words. Then you keep going through the door to get the shelter key from Kris's head, and then Kris themselves are "used up" - you don't need them anymore either.

And once you have the shelter key, you enter the shelter. You ditch Kris and use another character to enter the codes.

Putting aside the plot which I'm sure is the only reason Toby made the gameplay decisions that he made, Ralsei in my opinion should've fucked off after Chapter 1.
It should've been a case of every Chapter having a custom companion, for example Chapter 2 could've had you get Lancer instead of Ralsei until Lancer turns to stone, then you could have Berdly join us to fight off the Queen.
The only reason Berdly doesn't join you is specifically because Ralsei exist and takes the third spot.
Chapter 3 could've had Roulx join you, until he eventually betrays you to get with his Thropple (or however he calls it), at which point Lancer (or even The Original Starwalker) could've been part of your team until you defeated Roulx and got him back.
Chapter 4 could've had Gerson or could've pulled the rug under your feet and make you actually use one of the Darkners there, like he paper cups.

Granted this absolutely does not consider weird routes and plotpoints relevant to the game, however I do feel Ralsei really could've been pushed aside and the gave would've improved because of it.
