It borrows a lot of ideas from Suda51 and the general willingness to throw convention out the window and it borrows a lot of general ambiance from Silent Hill but it's really it's own thing. OFF is lightning in a bottle, it's a bizarre combination of the right music with the right writing with the right translation with the right art style, in many cases not necessarily intentional on the part of the author. I assume that Noelle was always supposed to kill him in the end and he only signed up because he was suicidal anyway after everything that happened with Dess and his family. Susie getting herself involved was a lucky break for him, there's a reason why Ralsei is so enthusiastic about her and why he also doesn't wants her to get desensitized to violence in chapter 1. He hoped that this will help them change the prophecy, but unfortunately it didn't happen as of chapter 4.

Earthbound was one of the least popular RPGs when it released. It did absolutely horribly in the west, and even in Japan it only did "ok". Franchises like Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy were selling exponentially more than Earthbound did. If someone made an RPG Maker game

The only reason why Earthbound gets any attention at all nowadays is because there was some strange time in the mid 2010's where hipsters claimed that their games were based on Earthbound, and people thought that was cool only because they recognized the characters in Smash Bros. If an RPG Maker game wasn't made specifically with that "We're Earthbound inspired" title in mind, then it'd make far more sense to claim that it's Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest inspired, especially if it's a Japanese RPG Maker game.

I don't think anyone really remembers the loops, Kris has definitely looped at least once considering he had his own savefile.
It seems whatever summoned us into the world has put the burden of looping into us, either trapping themselves until we find a way a fix things, or because we were needed in the first place and we weren't there.
Currently, the only change there is by replaying the chapters is Kris gets the option to go back to sleep to skip the intro of the chapters, and... the mike room after beating Chapter 4, I don't think any of this means anything

So for the second loop, Noelle was cut from the team completely. Susie was recruited from the start to prevent her from being an antagonist. But what simple change could've caused this to happen? In the first time loop, the reason why Noelle formed a three-student team with Kris and Susie is because Berdly was teamed with Temmie. In the current timeline, Berdly formed a team with Noelle because Temmie already had a partner?
