I assume that Noelle was always supposed to kill him in the end and he only signed up because he was suicidal anyway after everything that happened with Dess and his family. Susie getting herself involved was a lucky break for him, there's a reason why Ralsei is so enthusiastic about her and why he also doesn't wants her to get desensitized to violence in chapter 1. He hoped that this will help them change the prophecy, but unfortunately it didn't happen as of chapter 4.
