You keep repeating that time limit is meaningless because it's rather generous, but that's a knowledge you only have in hindsight, the time limit imposes a strict limitation on the player, you can't fuck around forever, losing pikmin is only meaningful because time wasted recollecting them is meaningful to the overaching theme of the game itself, the timer gives meaning to everything that happens in the game because any amount of time wasted is final and you can't know what will be required of you in the future and how much more time you'll need (in a first blind playthrough, whicih is obviously how the game should be experienced at first).
The core concept of the game itself requires time constraints, if you have infinite time, you have infinite resources, then you can just use whatever tactic you want regardless of quality or efficience, it's all the same, resource limitations which are only real when there is a time constraint is what makes excellence tactics and strategy a meaningful pursuit both in game and in real life.
