I'm still not sure what the exact formula that makes the rando experience lightyears better than pretty much any other coop game. DRG's stylization and completely non-serious atmosphere might drive away the most sweaty of tryhard retards. The majority of class abilities you'll be using constantly for yourself all benefit the team. The ping system is so simple but has enough contexts to inform everyone of practically every scenario in the game. Various enemies are designed around being inconvenient for individuals and the mule mechanic naturally enforces sticking together. You have to deliberately go out of your way to fuck it up others, while the consequences are minor and it is obvious to spot from a mile away. Every class has something they can do to carry in the worst circumstances, so while you get the 100+ or kick lobbies, there are a sizeable chunk of veteran players that just like helping new ones as if it is some extra difficulty modifier.
It's just a shame Ghost Ship didn't build out more content for it. It's a fine game for what it is and the monetization strategy/season content was one of the best compromises in the business. I don't like the look of anything they are doing for Rogue Core though.
