Grunge was a cultural shift at the time but doesn’t have the looming power over the decade people like to think it did. By 1995 it was pretty played out, and fucking ska music was getting popular. the late 90s really took off with the musical cluster fuck that had everything from Numetal to teen idols and fucking swing music for some reason. Grunge gets too much credit for what was a passing fad to most people.
