Every time I posted chaos>esque>anthology's 13 MB quake engine source code to github it was deleted within days to a week.
This is a counter point to your "you can still do whatever you want". I have screen captures, which I posted here to /g/ and /pol/, of the Darkplaces people saying "oh he posted it to github, one min, I'll get rid of it" on their discord.
(note: it was uploaded on request from another programmer, he wouldn't download from sourceforge: where the actual project is)
