>ive been underweight all my life though, id have to bulk first
You definitely will, but don't worry, bulking isn't nearly as bad as people make you think it is, ESPECIALLY if you're a newbie making newbie gains. That svelte little frame isn't gonna turn super fat overnight, don't worry.
Anyways this is gonna sound like a lot but it's really very simple:
For nutrition:
1.) Download a nutritional tracker, my personal recommendation is MyFitnessPal since it's got a VERY extensive list of foods and is generally very good at showing you everything you need to see in terms of nutrients.
2.) Find your maintenance calories (MyFitnessPal has this), and make sure you begin eating at a caloric surplus of around 300-500 calories CONSISTENTLY.
3.) Make sure you consume enough protein, around 1 gram per pound of body weight is a good benchmark, and more importantly, try to eat more whole foods. For that, I recommend checking out some of Scooby1961's videos, he goes very in depth with nutrition.
4.) Really don't need to overthink it, your biggest thing is getting enough protein and enough calories and you'll learn more about macros and micros as you go on.
(Also check out Talon Fitness, his channel has good advice for diets and nutrition.)
running out of space gonna make another post for training stuff
