everything physical is meaningfully finite to laymen thoughbeit. the only thing all humans have access to that is not finite is time. thus, man-hours is the only true measure of the value of an object.
and for gold, simply being finite does not make it valuable. if shtf tomorrow, i wouldn't want it; it's heavy and hard to transport as a currency (it is still wads of metal and due to its physical properties can't be made into easily transported thin coins) and more importantly I don't have any facilities in my house to turn it into anything. i would rather have lead, since i can at least cast that into air rifle pellets over a fire and use it to shoot birds. if the only value in gold to me is the things it can buy, it has no value at all
