I'm about to start studying for an AWS cert, is the best studying resource still Udemy?
any SWEs making over 200k whose job doesn't want to make you pull your hair out more than once a week due to political/people reasons? Just trying to get a general sense since I'm looking to move and wondering what are the odds it stays the same or gets worse

35 year old from Uruguay here.
I earn $52,000 annually as a remote scrum master for a team of 10 "American" (pajeet) devs at a small company
Literally all I do is dailies and "unblock" retarded children-brained devs that don't know how to use google, this is like 1 hour of real work a day.
For the past 7 years I've been faking it at the same company and I know I could earn twice as much if I got a "real" job but I'm scared of doing real work
I'm actually terrified of having to work 8 hours a day
Is this as good as it gets for a south american scrum master or should I try to get a job at a bigger company
>>105719835it wouls be as good as it gets, salary included, to a white american, let alone to you. You have no idea how good you have it.

How are your living conditions compared to the other beaners there?
>>105720580NTA, but Uruguay is fucking expensive, even by western standards.
>>105720599amerilards have this weird idea that they're the most expensive country on earth and everywhere else is free, so they live their life thinking of retiring in tourist hotspots. Then they hit 50 and realize it's be cheaper to stay put than to go for the lifestyle they wanted because actually other countries are not that cheap. >>105720813nah I almost earn modal (in salary p/h). Tech is booming in my cunt. If you factor in that my country is old as shit, and i dont know shit, im doing great
Bro who says "I earn the modal salary" haha like what the fuck
>>105720846modal is what matters not average. it is a sign of a high iq nation with economic literacy that it is a common phrase
>>105720886Isn't it the median that is most representative of the "average"?
>>105720886Modal means most common value in a set.
Surely you mean median salary you ESL retard.
>>105720886>>105720917Mode is a type of average. And it's a strange one to use measuring something as continuous as salary.
How are we coping fellow onsite cucks? Shits so boring ive started bringing in my own laptop with infinite phone data hotstop to study on the job in an attempt to aim for a job that isnt arbitrary about enforcing on site bs
>>105720947where do you even find those jobs where you get to do nothing all day? wherever I work, it's always a shitstorm with deadlines for yesterday.
>>105720947Ever since return to office we just talk about random stuff all day. Mostly video games. Sometimes our boss joins in for a good hour or so.
>>105720962The federal government.
>>105720924I mean the mode retards. It is superior to the median (and mean) when comparing yourself to society as a whole. Why would you not use the modus for salary... even the government uses modal salary and not mean or median.
>>105720993Because I don't want my salary dragged down by the bulk of mouth breathers that get paid minimum wage
>>105720993> The numerical value of the mode is the same as that of the mean and median in a normal distribution, and it may be very different in highly skewed distributions.>https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mode_(statistics)>An example of a skewed distribution is personal wealth: Few people are very rich, but among those some are extremely rich. However, many are rather poor.
>>105720962I work at a pharma megacorp in the process of being raped by jeet outsourcing and profit shortcuts everywhere so even the simplest things get blocked for hours if not days
>>105721006THE MODE IS THE MOST COMMON VALUE... minimum wage has no impact on it unless most common wage is minimum wage (it is not so)
>>105721011today i learned i was wholesome keanu chungus years old when i learned i have been conflating median and mean
>>105720411Yes but expect to spend 300$ for a Belken KVM.
>>105721023It does because Noseberg will always try to under pay you
>>105721023who would want to earn most common salary when working in tech? why even compare yourself to common plebs?
>>105721066>>105721060if you have 0 years of exp, and you just start out in a field where you are at the bottom of every metric, you want the mode. If you earning modal income at age <24 you are killing it.
Only when you farmed enough xp points and start jobhopping you want to use the mean (or percentiles of your field)
>>105721066He earns less than common plebs, hence looks up to them
>>105720833>nah I almost earn modal (in salary p/h)
>>105721095i am 20 and earn almost the same as the 45 year old fossils. the best comparison as starter is simply modal as you get low xp and are a low lvl. Once you complete the schooling tutorials do you want to use means and percentiles.
Sorry that low iq people can't understand the relative utility of statistics! Very, sad. Ouch!

hehe
>>105720917Median is the middle of the linr value and is skewed by group inequality. Average is skewew by group magnitude which is even worse. Mode is a true commonality measure. For example in a country where 49% are minimum wage but the 50% percentile is 4x that and the 1% earn 100000x that, the mode will be minimum wage, the median will be 4x minimum wage, and the average will be something like 1001x minimum wage.
>>105720993So you're on less than the median and mean?
And this is a good thing?
>>105720932salary is continuous but earned salary is discrete because people are discrete

My career so far (I'm 27)
>a few years fucking around with a buddy as a "startup"
>1.5 years as a working student
>1.5 years full time
>1.5 years full time at job #2 with 30% more salary
How retarded would it be to job hop again? I'm getting paid really well especially for my age (apparently I'm just really good at what I do according to everyone), but I recently found out I have basically zero prospects of doing a career climb in my current job. They're even so retarded as to hire external people for those higher positions
My current plan is to work a little bit more but already start looking around. Or is this dumb?
Do you ever have casual conversation with your manager?
>>105721765I do recruiting. Honestly, if I don't see the guy hopping jobs that's a major redflag for me, must be lazy af.
@27 you should have like 2-3 hops tops until ageism catches up to you and opportunities start dwindling, make the best of them
>>105721765you should be job hopping every 2-3 years, more often means employers won't touch you because you hop too much and less means you're just losing earning potential
>>105721775I always have stock conversations loaded ready to engage. Usually one of family/cars/traveling/tv gets them and they start talking about themselves
>>105721798Guess that means I'll be stuck for a bit here then. FUCK
>>105721798A few years ago the benchmark was 1-2y lol
Looking to jump into a Network Engineer or a NOC center position, but a lot of the openings I'm seeing are contract-to-hire. I've always been a W2 employee, what should I be aware of?
I would want to be in a job for at least around 18 months before I moved, but I have nothing to justify that number
>>105721765Basicly after 1-3 years once you gain enough experience on your resume to move out for a better company. If your getting paid really well for your location then sitting tight does not hurt since you can do an internal recruitment to someone else who leaves the company. That is the key to networking within the workplace. I have about a dozen people in my company and a dozen more within my customer network who want me to move to there new companies. However they don't pay as well as my current position so I will keep them in my back pocket and try to hire my customers or friends friends to keep the network strong.
>>105721854Its over
>>105721854It's always been ~3 iirc. That's what I usually shoot for minimum. Although this latest place is terrible so who knows.
>>105721765You're telling me, man.
My biggest fear with hopping is that it's hopping into the unknown. My job right now is super comfy and I actually enjoy going into work each day.
It'll be nice to make more, but just the thought that it's all a gamble on who I'm working with, or what I'm working on, or the deadlines I have to manage. It's scary to my stuck-in-my-ways routine.
>>105721874If your going full contractor then you need to double or triple your rate. Besides you need to cover your own medical, dental, vision and any other tax bullshit. If it's for a contracting company then not much different infact sometimes you even get paid better than direct hire employees but that is not a guarantee.
>>105721887If you make enough just don't. Just don't. It's getting worse out here and if you're comfortable just ride that out. I make more than I ever thought I would and yet this place is agonizing.
>>105721880The problem is I'm not gaining any leadership experience in my current job.
Getting a leadership role also seems to require leadership experience, so the only way to get to that seems from an internal career climb.
So I feel like I'll be stuck in senior hell forever and I fucking hate it.
>>105721887wait 3 years get your masters degree in whatever and the market should improve by then. However like other anons have said its OVER
>>105721882You must be 18 or older to browse this site
>>105721910correct but that's how tech works nowadays. You need 0 pro exp and 0 tech knowledge to get into leadership, if you have more than that ypu'll be capped at senior
>>105721946It's a fun meme but that's objectively untrue. When I said leadership I meant stuff like tech leads, staff engineers, etc.
Not literal execs and VPs and so on
>>105721989NTA but its the truth across all industries. You either get your MBA/Masters degree in another company or you fail up by being mediocre and going to golf with your boss.
>>105722005I do actually have a business-adjacent degree.
Which makes the whole thing even more annoying to me, HOW THE FUCK DO I GET INTO LEADERSHIP REEEE
>>105721932Brother for Gen X and boomers the concept of leaving a job before 5 years was foreign. Tech invented serial job hopping.
>>105722017Just keep applying. If you have 1 thing relevant then you need to apply anyways. You simply never know if there willing to bite. Also your local job market sucks so be sure you are ready to move if they give you a real leadership position.
>>105722116What is it? I'm not saying tech leads are better than all the people they are managing. But so far the teach leads at every company I've been working for had either more than enough programming experience or they were very talented fast risers.
I just realized that if I quit or get fired, a lot of important dashboards, notifications, and functions immediately start working because they've ignored me asking to get shit done on a group account.
>>105722144Stop embarassing yourself please
Is every country's hiring process as bad as the UKs?
First hurdle, some non technical recruiter, probably a former sales dick
Second hurdle, HR Cat Lady that would rather hire a woman because she still listens to the Spice Girls and tags all her posts with #girrrl-power
Third hurdle, some boomer manager from a non technical background who only cares how much a servile serf you'll be
Generic take home test
Forth, finally you get someone technical, but it's a four eyed limp wristed gingerbearded soi cock with a shelf of funkopops behind him that's been with the company ten years
>>105722203yes.

>>105722325Meanwhile, here's the job description:
What the fuck does LC have to do with managing backend that I have 10 years of experience doing on the job?! And you auto reject me because I can't do an assessment?! This is why I dont want to cold apply anymore.
>>105722203I want to know if there is literally any other type of job that has these crazy long and tedious hiring processes.
Only reference I have was back when I was working dead in jobs and they just did one interview that lasted 5-15 minutes.
Like what do finance guys do? Nurses? Mechanical engineers?
>>105722341>internship experience does not applyJesus christ they just keep chipping away.
>>105722203Atm, unfortunately. Indians have ruined our industry and it's going to take a bit for retarded execs who are coked out going on vacations to realize it's a mistake to outsource.
>>105722363It's fucking rich, isnt it
>>105722341>senior>but minimum requirement is three yearswhat? I thought it took longer to be considered a senior
>>105722358Our role isn't properly credentialed or regulated. The education/licensing side is a free for all, so employers turn towards these strict performative hiring ceremonies to filter out all of the phony retards.
Unfortunately, their filters are bad as well, so it actually helps a certian kind of phony retard (math autists that excel at LC puzzles but can't do much else).
>>105722341>senior>ba>3 yearssenior lost all meaning
>>105722374Yeah 3 years is normally mid.
>>105722358Fintech is like that but that's because it's tech. Finance is very easy but does have prob&stats teasers that are a bit like lc (but unlike lc, totally solvable by first principles). Nothing else is like that, everythijg else is just a chat where people get a feel for your ability based on how you describe previous work and the difficulties and solutions you might habe dealth with.
>>105722363It's always been like that in my experience
>>105722388nta but to comment on this, you are absolutely right. LC puzzles dont test for anything realistic. It's basically saying
>hey, unless you're a great chess autist, you can't get this job where you'll be chasing bugs all day or supporting dumb customers/ internal associates to get a requirement metSomething most of these autists suck at. Yes, they suck, already had the conversation with both big tech and non tech workers. The problem also is that all these business jocks don't understand technology. They never did. To them, it might as well be blue collar work, so they think they can do the same thing with say a janitor or secretary, and just outsource it for cheaper revenues. but now they're realizing that's a shit strategy, but because of the economy, they rather keep the ship sinking to keep their own profits up instead of dealing with the productivity issue in the engineering department.
Unfortunately, I think this time there will be no cycle of things returning to norm. It feels like mad Max world where they really rather keep this as a business structure. They simply hate paying software engineers real wages anymore.
>>105722374Why do you indians think that?
>>105722422Unfortunately even non tech companies have been using assessments. I did a construction company assessment and it was a programming puzzle. It's mostly cause of the indians mass applying, so even non tech companies are going toward using LC to filter out people, despite not knowing why they exist to begin with
>get a call from boss at 9am as soon as I login
>blah blah blah blah blah something blah blah blah
>going to set a meeting with other teams
>books meeting at 9:30am
is it reasonable to be a little annoyed at this? he seems to do this a lot. lots of cold calls, lots of just impromptu meetings. shit's so fucking annoying and it's easily meetings that could've been an email/message too. It's not even insanely 911 style shit. Fuck man the thing that pisses me off too is I'll set meetings up with him days in advance but then he bends over and ditches or is insanely late to the meetings because "oh sorry talking to big boss here"
The illusion of free choice
>>105722446kek
Jokes aside they DO use ai interviews and psychometric tests for fucking fast food jobs nowadays.
>>105722462no fucking way
>>105722458no, chinese. why is it a jeet thing to do? ironically my last boss was a jeet and he'd have more respect for my time.
>>105722460Put a guy smiling in the back "Remembering better times and hoping to die"
>>105722475foreigners lack social conduct and awareness.
>>105722435It's why Indians and other foreigners thrive in LC. They're high on memorization/math and can simply note down all of the top 200, which repeat themselves in various incarnations. But outside of that they can't inductively reason about things, be practical, efficient, communicative, it's horrible.
The key to great software is the ability to interface between the business desires and tech constraints/possibilities, and to reason and think architecturally. None of that is really valued in interviews. Instead you grind little puzzles. It's like judging potential QBs entirely off of their combine metrics over stats and body of work.
>>105722460being unemployed is the best time of my life. enough money and time to grind 12 hours a day on my own project to become self employed in the near future
>>105722491Nah, he's a long time immigrant. I mean on one hand my previous boss was insanely fucking grumpy on the other hand my boss just seems into a panic every fucking 5 minutes. But going back to my question since I can't tell if I'm valid in being like "come on dude wtf" or am I just being a straight bitch?
>>105722460Being underemployed
>>105722467I know because I tried to get into those to not go bankrupt between 2 jobs. And yes, all the major chains rejected me.
>>105722496Ive said it before but any skill you learn in LC is used less than 2% of the time on the job. As a software engineer, coding is less than 10% of your work (most is planning, communicating, and support). And any optimization you come up with is a library you write up and never touch again. So you just hired a guy who made one or two fast library functions and now all his use is gone. Which explains the quality fallout happening in all these big companes. In fact it was taught in school that pre optimization is one of the sins of programming, so me being a programmer from the 2000s am shocked to see such perverse of the programming methodology be twisted at the hiring level. Optimization always comes last because you can't figure out any bottlenecks or long term problems until after the code is tested and ran in production for a significant amount of time. Then it becomes a new task to profile and refactor/ improve.
Fuck LC. Fuck math autists. Fuck indians/ chinese, all of them. This is not the industry I worked my butt off to get in. now Im filtered out not because of my experience, but because I didnt learn the humilition ritual of LC puzzle lightning round assessments that are made just to make the HR and hiring manager people to filter the mass applications of indians easier.
Give me a fucking break.

Hello /g/ I come from an unrelated field, primarily education. I've begun learning and working on React/webdev in full-stack. I have a BA in CompSci and I'm curious what the job market is like for someone like me who'd want to swap fields. and for gold, simply being finite does not make it valuable. if shtf tomorrow, i wouldn't want it; it's heavy and hard to transport as a currency (it is still wads of metal and due to its physical properties can't be made into easily transported thin coins) and more importantly I don't have any facilities in my house to turn it into anything. i would rather have lead, since i can at least cast that into air rifle pellets over a fire and use it to shoot birds. if the only value in gold to me is the things it can buy, it has no value at all

everyone wants to get into tech because it looks easy and there's lots of "rockstar" CEOs in it who make it look like everyone is rich (not to mention the legions of retards bragging about "TC" mostly made up of things that aren't straight cash money)
the reality is mixed; working with computers is "easy" but the easy jobs are very low level and poorly paid and the competition is absolutely insane even before the US and Canada imported literally millions of jeets to work for minimum wage. In actual COOOODER positions, hiring processes have been broken for decades, competition is still pretty stiff, and the newness of the field means that despite the thousands of standards for the stuff being made, schooling to get into the field is basically a series of snake-oil selling charlatans and the only way for an employer to know if you're actually able to do your job is to see you do it. So hiring/interviewing processes are wack as fuck, turnover is pretty high, and the actual codebases are all busted because they're maintained by people who aren't competent, don't care that they aren't competent, are overseen by people who don't care, and are selling to customers who don't care.

I could come to work in shorts and flipflops every day, tour the entire office, chat up any employee I wanted, drive around in the company truck to clear my mind, and everything was great. Most IT departments were like one or two guys and nobody bothered them so long as stuff continued to work. More than anything, I could get really great pay with nothing more than associates degree because I had tons of experience and a great track record.
Nowadays, the competition is fierce, or at least it looks fierce. There's a massive amount of people getting in to tech that have no business working it and it gums up the whole system. Bosses see the massive stream of applicants for even basic jobs and want Bachelors+numerous certs+10 years of experience with masters preferred and it's a tier 2 helpdesk job. It also sucks that companies hire for basic positions but then delegate things above your paygrade to you, forcing you into the awkward position of either doing what you're handed so you can keep getting paid or getting asked why you're going so slow with the eventual termination notice if you speak up.
I want my career to go back to being a thing rarely done by people and held in some regard by others.

Using power platform slightly makes sense, it's just that I got no clue about excel, dbs, or power automate. The whole thing is normie office stack and chatgpt hallucinates anything I ask. Books may be too slow and tok much effort for something I want to do asap and forget, and tutorials online seem like the same cesspool like office and wordpress tutorials, scamming normies into hyper basic courses.

>>105725480>>105725645Yeah sorry.
I got to make an "app" that takes some inputs (server load) calculate stuff based on another sheet, add it to the list and emails pdf to people in another sheet. Basically daily & weekly KPI calculator for networking guys. Everything is on SharePoint or shared through OneDrive.
I discovered that it's possible to make SharePoint "list" which looks like a read only excel.
>>105725634sometimes it's the only company hiring. Plus maybe the pay is good.
>>105725720Yeah that's definitely doable.
Idk what you mean by server load. But I think your best option in Power Automate is to first focus on
1. Get sheet 1 -> get data from sheet 2 and mash it into sheet 1
2. Get 1X -> add it to Sheet 3
3. mash sheet 3 and sheet 4.
I'm really not too sure on the take some input(server load) part. I can probably look online to get some documents that you can look at to do 1/2/3 but need more details on the input.
Honestly never really liked Power platform for automation tools like this and rather would Python it but I can never find a company that's comfortable with "programming languages" and I wouldn't even know how to host it.
>>105725778It's all on SharePoint. I got no idea how "program" this thing, can you recommend any source that would be good for tech people (not normie slow, hyper basic or trying to sell something), but not excel jokey level?
>Server load It's in csv files on one drive. They somehow appear and update there hourly.
>Python that'd be good too if I knew how to connect to SharePoint.
quite the lively thread today huh?
>put my resume on all the job board sites to cast a wide net
>phone and email spammed by pajeet recruiters nonstop
I redid my resume with a Google Voice number and a different email address that I intend to only use for job hunting. Voicemail for the VOIP number tells them to send me an email with the job description and the email sends an automatic reply that tells them what Iโm looking for and to briefly reply back if their job meets my requirements. Is this smart or dumb? I had seven pajeets call me with dog shit or inapplicable jobs yesterday all within the same ten minutes and I just donโt have time for it anymore.

This all implies that you have access to the sharepoint drive and files?
>For initiating the trigger.https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/sharepoint/dev/business-apps/power-automate/sharepoint-connector-actions-triggers
There's probably multiple ways to do your sheet shenningans but I have no idea what your actual files are so my impression is probably best to have a clean sheet and add only the necessary information.
Step 1: You can use something like this - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vfskquGoeG4
Formula wise I don't know what specifically you can do so I'll need more info on that.
Step 2: Same thing
I don't know if you really need Sheet 4 if you can just make a distribution list instead, seems easier: https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/discussions/sharepoint_general/create-distribution-list-from-a-sharepoint-list/838063/replies/3754066

>>105725959uh huh.... anyways just really thinking about it more, seems significantly easier to do this in powerBI. just have the datapoints pull from PowerBI and set settings to refresh the dashboard every few hours or something. Is there a specific use case to use Power Automate instead of BI?
