There do exist games entirerly in hiragana but they are made for children who are already fluent and have intentionally simple language, like the Pokemon games. Hiragana only is extremely annoying both for Japanese language beginners and for native speaker Japanese adults.
The homophones are a problem for beginner learners because they are not fluent. For Japanese adults, the problem is how much of a retarded waste of space hiragana only is and how slower it takes one to go over a text. That's why kanji are great for beginners because once you learn them you don't have to wonder about homophones which are so much more prevalent in Japanese then in any European language.
Japanese is read so much faster and easier because of the Kanji compared to languages that use the latin alphabet that it's insane. Europeans like me have to learn speed reading techniquest to deal with the waste of space that alphabet is while Japanese adults scan a sentence incredibly quickly thanks to the kanji whose space takes one or more characters instead of a huge line of letters.
One example 懐 - ふところ (futokoto, inside a pocket)
They immediately know what this means and continue reading other parts of the sentence.
As for homonyms, just look at this, this is only for the shu sound. There are thousands of similar examples.
