Companies run sales like this all the time for engagement alone. And although the price may be rising, the price memory is still a very real thing. People are taking profits in anticipation of the price declining. Sort of like taking profits off of the table as a hedge. So despite the price being higher does not mean their profitability is increasing as well. They probably lose sales volume as we sit at these highs. They still have all kinds of bills to pay and they still have their budgets to meet. Selling under spot to stay on track is actually a normal thing.
