Hopefully you are not underaged enough to be blinded by seeing the actions of the consumers having effect on the industry practices. You pay for Nintendo Online
>1. Because they saw Xbox and Playstation get away with it
And
>2. Because they saw us buy online passes and saw they could get away with it
Which then prompted them to stop selling us more consoles on hone release without paying up a tier for the Online Expansion. Nintendo's version of emulating Xbox's game pass model is to provide all the paid DLC of current games to go along with the 64 bit era of classic consoles. Along with the virtual consoles not being something you own, you also don't own (or have a perpetual license to) the DLC by selecting the subscription model.
So Nintendo is absolutely participating in the trends of the buisness practices of the times, including the anticonsumer ones, and even going harder with DRM such as the remote killswitch built into each S2 system, going even beyond what Sony and MS do for their consoles.
They do it because people buy it and prove that the model will work, it will attract customers and turn profits. Ontop of saying "this system, this model is not good enough for me to invest in", not buying is my way of demanding more from the industry. I love Nintendo games. Mario Odessey was the return to SM64 I wanted so badly. Up until now I gave Pokemon chances with SwSh and ScaVi, even buying the DLC and Hone subs to keep my mons collected. They've lost me as a loyal customer because of their practices, and if we continue to enable them and their greed they'll keep pushing the envelope until they lose even more loyal customers such as yourself.
Yes, for the health of the industry and consumer rights, it's prudent to tell them no.
What LotR game has my boy Fatty Bolger in it?
