Neither were ancient pagans environmentalists. They destroyed so many forests that some parts of Scandinavia have not recovered.
Also you don't need to be an environmentalist to respect and care for nature. Plenty of vegans believe to care for nature and yet create more monocultures in agriculture because cows can eat all kind of grass but humans don't.
