Not sure about Komga, never used it, probably not all that different though. For Kavita I rename all manga epubs to zip despite it handling epubs decently enough (clip related) because I primarily use the Tachiyomi/Mihon extension for reading as that allows offline reading, easy tracking of what you’re reading and quite frankly has the best UI of any manga reader ever—but doesn’t open any epubs from kavita. Filters them out hardcoded. I might be able to fix this in the extension if the respective APIs allow that (especially unsure on the Mihon side here, it’s rather limited), but for now everything works well enough for me so my motivation is limited.
And honestly, both the web epub and manga/comic reader are probably decent enough on tablets anyway even with fixed layout epubs. As with most things though, be the change you want to see. Epub manga is a niche use case that is unlikely to improve unless the weirdos using it speak up about it, and the big advantage of these web apps is that a lot of minor UI things are downright trivial to change.
