Weebs love trying to convince you that the latest shonen shit is actually great and totally not manipulative, melodramatic garbage where crazy twists (which unravel into a nonsensical mess in the 2nd half without fail almost every single time) constitute as great storytelling. I feel like all the actually good (and weird) shit was made in the 80s-00s and then the medium blew up in the west and then just started applying more and more to everything, to the point where it's just not even worth trying to look for the good stuff anymore (if it's even being made, i've no idea). feel like anime has good, even great premises some of the time but they don't end up going anywhere interesting or the series just won't get another season because it was just promo for the manga etc etc.

would love to be proven wrong because my feelings on the medium as a whole have just become incredibly jaded the past few years since I stopped engaging with it. especially since the years go by and you connect with the teenager emotions and melancholia of the character less and less, there's only so much of this stuff with slight variations that you can consume before it stops feeling like a complete waste of time imo.
