Its really not, your great grandparents oreos had the same caloric value they have today, the ingredients have changed slightly but the total caloric value is roughly the same and you're actually paying more for them today (adjusted for inflation) than you were back then. Sitting in a chair in a factory is not burning significantly more calories than sitting in a chair at home. They had the slop, they had the sedentary lifestyle, it was just as cheap and abundant, yet they didn't get fat and their kids didn't get fat either, it was those kids kids that got fat.
