I'm convinced it just hasn't been long enough. People said the exact same things about gen 6 approaching the release of gen 8 and I didn't meet anyone IRL that actually liked gen 7 until 2024 when I met a bunch of freshman in college that grew up on it. Learning people genuinely thought the gen 7 games were good convinced me it'll never change, and I've already met a bunch of teenagers/college students that consider gen 8 to be the peak of the post-2000s Pokémon games.
