There are two "poofs" when Kuma uses his Devil Fruit to teleport Blackbeard and his mother before their demise at the hands of Rocks, this means they have were separated as they are teleported to two different areas around the world. Blackbeard owes his life to Kuma the courageous deeds of those on God Valley. He is found first by Lafitte, who distorts and corrupts him and is the true antagonist behind the world domination ideals of the Blackbeard pirates using them to achieve his own goals.
