What? How does the measurement of an atom even change anything? We don't need to know atoms exist for sure to model their behavior. We knew about neutrons decades before they were formalized and isolated simply because we realized things were heavier and larger than they should be, and there was a stability in atoms that the math didn't yet check out for.

I don't need direct measurements to know an atom exists, I just need to know what is impossible without atoms that exist. Science 101
